Sycamore Choices

Luke 19:1-10

This is the sermon only from our service on September 27th, 2020. This was our first service back after the COVID-19 closing (almost 6 months). Unfortunately, the service wasn’t recorded properly during the live service and so the message was recorded afterwards at Pastor Michael’s home.

QUESTIONS THAT WILL HELP YOU DIG DEEPER INTO THE MAIN MESSAGE FOR YOUR FAMILY DEVOTIONS OR SMALL GROUP:

Read Luke 19:1-10. Why do you think Zacchaeus was so intent on seeing Jesus? Today, have you seen this kind of desperation in anyone? If not, why do you think that is?

Jesus seemed to go way off the beaten path to make a pit stop in Jericho. Why do you think He did this? Read Romans 3:11, why is God constantly seeking man (starting all the way back in Genesis 3:1-10)?

Pastor Michael stated, “A changed life begins when a person gets curious“. He then used the example of Zacchaeus in our text, but he also used Moses in Exodus 3:3-4. What about the shepherds in Luke 2:15? What is it about curiousity that the Lord seems to appreciate? Why? How does He reward it? And how does Psalm 34:8, ‘Taste and see that the Lord is goodrelate to this?

Why do you think Jesus singled Zacchaeus out? Why did He invite Himself over? What was it that caused this radical life change in Zacchaeus’ life?

When you look at the five choices that were discussed, where are you now?

  • He made the choice to be a sinner
  • He made the choice to be curious
  • He made the choice to be looked down upon
  • He made the choice to accept the invitation
  • He made the choice to live it, not just believe it
